Astrology relies heavily upon the exact time of birth for accuracy of information derived from one's chart. Even when birth times are recorded, they are often inaccurate due to a general lack of emphasis for this information, particularly in the western world.
When an astrologer observes a lack of correspondence between the chart they are analyzing and the person they are interviewing, adjustments are typically made which help fine-tune the chart and the information expressed through it. Even small adjustments to the birth time (which specifically sets the sign and degree of the rising sign or ascendant) can dramatically affect the outcome of a person's astrology. Typically this calibration occurs through the development of a relationship with a client over time and several sessions.
When a client comes with no knowledge of their birth time and they have also exhausted all resources in finding evidence of it, a process of rectification is suggested that will determine the moment of the first breath.
This process, which generally involves 30 to 45 minutes of questions and answers, can be challenging for the astrologer but it is a true test of their astrological, psychological and intuitive skills.
Robert Sabella has been very successful with this process, and he enjoys it immensely. There have been many instances where a client later discovered a record of their birth time which verified the one which he arrived at during rectification.
